Ocean Freight Containers Overview
Most of today's
ocean freight is shipped inside of a container. This reduces handling
by all parties involved in the transportation chain reducing costs as
well as:
 | Keeps freight out of the weather elements |
 | Prevents pilferage and theft |
 | Increases carrier productivity by allowing faster
loading and unloading of a vessel |
Some cargo cannot be containerized due to its size, or often times the
nature of the product prevents container usage (such as grains). For detailed
information regarding non containerized type of cargo contact your Freight
Forwarder.
There are a growing number of container types and variations today, your
Freight Forwarder can advise you specific details. Payload details
are subject to prevailing over-the-road weight limitations applicable
in individual countries and states. Commodities weight to cube ratio will
also play a part in the amount of volume that can be loaded in a specific
container type.
